[UAGCNews] is a service of the Utah Association for Gifted Children. This announcement only listserv provides current news and notices of upcoming events related to gifted education. In addition, information and support for parents of gifted children in the state of Utah is also provided.

WHAT IS UAGC?
The Utah Association for Gifted Children advocates for the diverse population of gifted children in the State of Utah. We advance the understanding of the academic and social and emotional needs of gifted children among community leaders, policy makers, educators and parents.

We promote the development of educators and parents to be agents of change in their schools and communities and in the lives of gifted children.

Your membership provides you the following UAGC Programs and Services:

1) UAGC advocates for Utah's bright and gifted students on a state and national level. Your membership gives you a voice and has led to important legislation such as Advanced Readers at Risk and The High Ability Student Initiative. To join the Grassroots Advocacy Committee, contact Advocacy VP Amy Salyer at asalyer@highabilityutah.org

2)Educational Opportunities:
a)Annual Conference: UAGC offers a yearly conference providing parents and teachers with the latest gifted information from local and national experts.

b)Teacher Academy: UAGC offers workshops geared towards teachers working in the field of gifted education. Your membership helps ensure that teachers can receive quality training at an affordable cost.

c)Membership Meetings: UAGC offers free meetings to all members several times a year. These meetings feature a guest speaker and are meant to educate parents, teachers, and community members on current gifted issues.

d) Newsletter: Every member receives our newsletter with the latest resources and information relevant to those who have an interest in bright and gifted children. To submit an event or article to the newsletter, contact Publications VP Michelle Riggs at mriggs@graniteschools.org .

e) SENG (Supporting Emotional Needs of Gifted): UAGC sponsors SENG, model parent groups to help families develop understanding and parent skills to address the unique social and emotional needs of the gifted individual in their lives. To join the 'SENG Interested List', send an email to UtahSENG@comcast.net

f) Website: UAGC maintains a website at www.uagc.org with information on events, resources, and educational activities.

g) Local Affiliates: UAGC sponsors local affiliates which support parents and educators in districts around the state. Your membership includes a membership to the local affiliate of your choice. To start an affiliate or for help, contact Affiliate VP Ruthann Gibbs at rgibbs365@gmail.com

3) Scholarship and Awards: UAGC offers scholarships for gifted students, individuals, teachers, and community leaders.

4) Volunteers: UAGC offers opportunities to participate on a UAGC Board Committee. To get involved in any area of our work, contact UAGC President Sheri Sorensen at sasorensen@graniteschools.org
